    cat breeds
    Lydia asked:

I am thinking about getting another cat. My cat is an orange taby cat. Do different breeds work better together than others? Is there a difference?

There are a lot of different breeds but as far as getting along I don’t believe the breed makes a difference. That really depends on the cats not their breeds. Siamese ones are usually more territorial than other cats, so you may want to avoid that. Best of luck.

There are a lot of breeds of cats but it is the personality of the cats that determines if they get a long or not. Just like people.

There is a difference in some cases. Siamese tend to be more vocal. If the sound of a cat meowing for food if you’re 2 seconds late getting up in the morning bugs you, or if you don’t want to hear them crying to go outside, consider something else. As far as getting along with another cat, I think that’s just more an individual thing. You WILL have problems introducing a new cat if the existing one has been there for very long. But it can be done - it just takes time and patience. There have been lots of questions about it - use the search function at the top of this page to look for them.

And consider getting a cat from the local humane society, animal shelter, etc. You may literally be saving its life.

No, but there is a difference between cats.

Just make sure their personalities work, and they like each other.

      Best of luck!

Usually, orange tabbys get along with pretty much any cat. I have one and he has always been very friendly with every cat. It’s the other breed you need to watch! Better find a friendly cat!

The only difference between breeds is physical things, such as structure and their coat.
The only problem, like most of the others have already answered, is the individual cat itself.Make sure you get information about the cat before you adopt. Animal shelters should have that information, so make sure you read up on it.

      Good luck~

“Orange Tabby” isn’t a breed. Orange is red in cat colors so your cat’s COLOR is “Red Tabby”. If the striping on its coat is vertical then it’s “Red Mackerel Tabby” and if it’s a pattern of whorls (like the cat on the right -) then it’s “Red Classic Tabby”. As for breed, odds are your cat is no particular breed - like 97% of the cats on this planet.

Whether a cat gets along with others has little to do with it’s breed (or lack of thereof) and more on the individual cat’s personality. Some don’t like to be around others while others think “the more the merrier”. If you adopt a cat or kitten from a shelter the cards will often say whether or not the cat has been around other cats and if they get along with them.

I have four cats - a Persian, an Exotic Shorthair (shown in that pic above), a Ragamuffin (all three from shelters) and a domestic shorthair and they all get along great. And with the exception of the domestic, who I found years ago as a kitten, all were adopted as adults.
