You are better to ask this question on the cat side of things. I know very little about cats but most of them are fine if you introduce them young.

forget the myth that cats and dogs are enemies. I have two Siamese’s cats that grow with a wire terrier, sometimes they sleep all together and off course they have discussions with Hiss’s and barking but nothing abnormal.

Umm yorkies and cats cant go together. Yorkies were bred to kill them and keep them out of peoples yards there for you kittien will not live.

In my opinion any cat breed is ok. But you are right in thinking to get a kitten. Cats adapt in their own way unlike dogs do, so getting a kitten is your best bet.
This way the kitten will always know the dog and won’t be distressed over a new animal in the house.
Just watch the kitten with the dog (it’s nails), cause kittens are playful or at first the kitty may be scared of the dog at first (new home, away from its Mama, dog).
Good luck!

Get an adult cat that is friendly with dogs. Any good local rescue group will be able to tell you what cat is good with dogs. I recommend an adult cat as they are larger, can fight back against the larger puppy, and you’ll know their temperment now, instead of when it grows up. A kitten is so small, any rough play will likely hurt him. Sure, it’s more poetic to have two young animals, coz they can “grow up” together, but you’d have to have gotten them at the same time. The pup already has his ground established, you don’t want any territory disputes. Also, you’ve got two great rat-hunting breeds there, anything small may be killled by accident. Now, with regards to breed, personal experience would say Siamese, as I’ve found them to be the most ill-tempered, bossy, irritating kitties around, and they have the tenacity to fight back against a rude little puppy. If you want a cat you can enjoy, just try a local rescue group and ask them what cats are dog-friendly.

I have differant cats and two dogs (rot and dalmation). I do not believe in the breed of the animal but the temperment. Most people believe that rots and dalmations are terrible dogs for kids. My dogs love the kids and the cats. Like i said get a cat that is tolerant and energetic. he is going to have to keep up with the puppy or stay out of the way. If they are brought up together they will be fine. you could even get an older cat (many people dont want the adults to adopt) and he or she may help teach the puppy a few things. dont expect love over nite either. but they will be fine. just remember temperment. the humane society or other animal shelter should be able to help you choose the right one.
