OK… so I adopted 2 kittens from the ASPCA in NYC so they have there shots and they are spayed. One kitten is a torttie (female) and the other a blonde (male) tabby. The torttie runs around the apartment like she is on speed and the other kitten just lays around like there is no care in the world… i ask does this have to do with the breed of the cat or are female cats more active then males? Cuz i cant sleep at night anymore cuz she runs around knocking things over a like 3 in the morning. I love them and i dont wanna give them away. I just wanna know if this something she will evenulty grow out of?

Females are more active than males, and generally, they do not grow out of it. She will calm down a bit as she ages, and if she’s not spayed yet, spaying will help too. But the male will always be the quieter one.

Each kitten will have a different personality, it depends on the cat not the sex. Long haired cats tend to be more mellow than short hair.

It’s probably a kitten thing. Since colors are not breeds, these are probably domestic short (long, or medium) hair cats, or mixed breeds, especially if they were adopted from a shelter. All cats are different, believe me, my boys are polar opposites. Hopefully she will grow out of it. You didn’t say how old they were, but my 3 year old can still be pretty crazy when he wants to be. Maybe try to “cat proof” your house. Look for the things she knocks over most and try to make them more stable in some way. Find sturdy, quiet toys they can play with. My younger cat (the 3 year old) absolutely loves his scratching post. He climbs all over that, and nothing else. Just some suggestions, good luck and congrats on your new kittens!

Cats do have distinct personalities and preferences. You may need to confine her to the bathroom with a toy and a small bed. You need your sleep or you will not enjoy owning this cat. I heard of something feniway (I think). It mimics the pheromones of a cat’s face. You can get a plug in version; it circulates this pleasant, (belonging) scent that is very calming to cats. it might slow your little speed demon down. If not, confine one or both of the kitties so you can sleep. They will adjust. We had to do this with our single cat because she was so active and rowdy at night. I didn’t like it but we had to do it in winter when it was too cold to let her stay out for long.

Breeds don’t matter, but every cat has it’s own personality. My granmother has two kittens. One is a loner and the other one is very playful. They also “react” to peoples personalities.E.g.: the loner cat only plays with my cousin.

This isn’t a male/female or breed thing. It’s just some cat’s have extra energy while some don’t have enough. They may or may not grow out of it.

Yes, females are more active than males. I have 2 cats, 1 male and 1 female. The female (who is also a tortie!) is now about 3 years old, and as we speak, is running around like a maniac!!! Oh, and she just bumped into the table, but she’s OK.
So, I don’t think that your cat will out grow this, but if you get her spayed, she might calm down a LITTLE…

I think it’s just a personality thing. I have 1 male and 1 female and my female is very laid back. My male who is 4 years old, acts like a kitten 24/7. So, I don’t believe it’s a gender issue either.
