    cat breeds
    Jenn asked:

My dad is allergic to all cat breeds except the siberian. We know a family with many purebreed siberians and he is not allergic to them. We want to rescue a cat but were wondering if siberian mixes would trigger allergies?

I think it would largely depend on what it was mixed with, but you would have mild reactions I would think.

Actually..it all depends which of it does the have more of.If it’s more siberian..than probably not!but if it’s more mix,,then maybe you should stay away from it!

It’s usually not that your allergic to the cat, it’s the cats fur, so I don’t understand why that would be the only breed. I would say though that yes, it would trigger. Once again, I don’t know why, but it could be that the other families home has less of an effect because perhaps he spends less time there then around other such homes with animals.

It depends on what it is mixed with, and if there is more Siberian than the other type. If your father’s allergies are serious and can make him really ill, then I’d stay away from them for sure. All in all, I’d choose not to get a cat.

Most people that are allergic to cats are not allergic to the Siberian. If your dad is one that has allergies to cats but can co-exist with a Siberian, then getting a rescue cat is not for your situation.

I am a professional breeder of Siberians. In fact I am the one that *discovered* the hypoallergenic qualities of the Siberian and went on TV along with my vet back in 1997 to tell the world of this wonderful phenomenon.

Since Siberians are so rare approximately 5000 in America as opposed to 72 million felines, where exactly do you hope to find a Siberian mix?
