    cat breeds
    PartyCrasher asked:

I’m allergic to cats and my roommate is thinking about getting an indoor one. Are there any breeds that I wouldn’t necessarily be allergic to?

You’re allergic to cats, not their fur. Short hair cats produce less dander, and this is because they will have a less “fluffy” coat in the winter, so less shedding. As for it not making you allergic, you should tell your roomate to try something else, like a small dog.

Unfortunately, all cats produce dander, and that is likely what you are allergic to. A company is working to market genetically engineered cats, but they won’t be coming out until 2007, and will likely be expensive. There are some things you can do to limit the affect of living with a cat, but if you are severely allergic, it will likely not do much good. The link below has information on what you can do.
