I am wanting to adopt a cat from a shelter and want to know if there are any cats that dont get huge, like how chihuahuas are a small breed of dog, are there any small breeds of cat? Or a cat that has very short hair, like this:

They are all about the same. You need to just go and see what a shelter has to offer.

The right person to ask is….a vet! They know the average weight of different breeds…..some average 5-7 lbs as adults, others 8-12 lbs. ASK……a phone call doesn’t cost that much, and you’ll need a vet for your new kitten anyway! Hope this helps……..

you really cant find full bred cats in a shelter but you can find some short haired cats like tabbbies, blacks, blotched etc
heres some sites to look at to help you find what you want:

Well, most cats don’t get “huge.” Typical weight would be around 10 pounds. On average, female cats are smaller than males. Females are full grown in about one year (males a little longer), so you could easily adopt a cat that has already reached its full size. You need to understand that cats in a shelter are going to be DSH or DLH, so you’re not going to just walk in and adopt a cat that is breed X.
