I have had good experiences and have friends with good experience with Tortoiseshell cats. I have one who is the most loving cat I’ve ever known. If you call her she actually comes, she’s behind me EVERYWHERE, she loves to sleep on my stomach / back / lap. If I’m sick she’ll be with me all day, etc. I have a calico and tabby who are to themselves a lot. As for the dogs in the shelter, they were probably either abandoned or have never been shown any kind of affection so they act the way they do. They’ve probably seen so many people in and out and pass them without acknowledging them so they shut themselves out. Once you’ve actually interacted with them outside of their cage I’m sure they’de be more willing to play. It breaks my heart to go into those shelters, I wish I could take all of them home!

Siamese in my opinion are most dog like. I grew up with 2 of them and they came when we called them, fetched, sat when asked, walked on leashes…

Well, all cats have diff. personalities. But, For sure, the freindliest cat in my opinion is a tabby. The majority will come up to you, want to play, get pet ext.
All cats can be that way too.You just have too bond with them.
The more they like you, and trust you, the more itw ill become freindlier towards everyone.

      Good Luck!Hope I Helped!

Some homeless dogs probably have not been socialized so stay away from human contact. It would take a lot of patience on your part to socialize an adult dog who has never had a home. Same with cats, they need to be socialized too. I’m not sure if there is any breed of cat that is more “dog like” If dogs and cats are raised together they become very bonded and don’t seem to know that they have a species difference. The hatred for each other comes with adulthood. Good luck

If you want a dog, get a dog.
Talk to the shelter attendants. They spend lots of time with the animals and can show you exactly what you want. Shelters are stressful for dogs. That’s probably why they are “negligent”.
Also, if you get it home and don’t like it, you can take it back. It’s no problem!

      As for dog-like cats:
      Abyssinian
      Devon Rex
      Siamese
      Maine Coon

Look for animals on Petfinder.com The fostered animals personalities (the ones living in foster homes) can be described very well for you by the foster family, who has gotten to know the animal. Every animal is unique, just like people. Petfinder is a great way to search for the personality you prefer! It even allows you to write each of the rescue groups and describe what you’re looking for.

Any cat can have the characteristics you are looking for. But from my experience the Manx is the most doglike in personality. Followed closely by the Siamese.

Shelter dogs get poked at and called over by people all day. Oftentimes they perk up when you take them out for a walk. But sometimes they’re just tired of being pestered, especially if you go, say late afternoon on a Saturday after everyone and their brother has walked through.

As far as friendly cats go, a lot of a cat’s personality can be figured out by it’s color. Though, of course there are exceptions. Black male cats tend to be the friendliest, though they are also quite laid back.
Oranges tend to be friendly, but clownish, not necessarily cuddlers. Tabby’s are a combination of cuddle and play. Blues tend to be very vocal. They’ll follow you around, but don’t always want to be held. Of course, there are exceptions. Tell the shelter staff or a volunteer what you’re looking for.
