*KitKat* asked:
The area where I live has COYOTES, and the last three cats were all american domestics and had the desire to go outdoors. I have had each one for about a year, then they got eaten. I’m starting to think that the breed is more of an outdoor type. I need a breed that is specially breed to NOT go outdoors. I need help. I want a cute breed, like an egyptain mau, shoeshoe, or calico, will any of those breeds work?

There are no breeds of cat that don’t like to go outside. What you need to do is stop letting them out, or, if they were getting out, keep a tighter leash on them, and don’t allow them to leave the house.Being an indoor cat doesn’t harm the cat in any way. Actually, they live longer because they aren’t as exposed to diseases and dangers.

If you got an adult cat, that was accustomed to going outdoors, then the cat would have a preference for going out. What you do is very simple. You get a kitten, preferably about 10 to 12 weeks old. Any younger and they haven’t gotten full benefit of Mom and learning manners with littermates. Yes, there is stuff they learn from being a part of a cat family, like how to play gently, etc.
Then, you get the kitten spayed or neutered, whichever is appropriate. Then, you never take the cat outside. I have a 21 year old cat, that I raised from a kitten, who has never been outside, except in a carrier to go to the vet. He loves to lay in a window, but he never tries to get out. I also have a couple of cats, that I took in as adults, who came from abuse/abandonment. They don’t even go near the door because they are so happy here. The door is the opening to the world where they were mistreated.

I have a calico who does NOT want to go outdoors. She’s very happy sitting in the window. Try getting a kitten that’s never been outside, maybe she/he will not develope that desire.

Birman, Ragdoll, Russian Blue(my aunt has had two, and they are cute-but very slim looking), Tonkinese, Siameese, Burmese, Somali are some that have been called good indoor cats.
But I think you can make any cat be an indoor cat

all breeds will go out if you let them - it is up to you to keep them confined or build them a safe cat run
persians and himalyans are typically lazier…
calico ISNT a breed - it is a color

it depends on the cat not the breed….just DON’T let the cats out….if they never go outside they won’t know what outside is and will not know what they are missing. If you think they MUST go out, then leash walk them.
