Anna C asked:
I’m thinking of getting my once outdoor cat (now indoor due to necessity) some company for while we’re out at work. This was suggested by the vet as she gets lonely and stressed. which breeds do not mind being inisde?

all cats can and should be indoor cats….go to the animal shelter and see who picks you out and then ask them to put it on hold while you go and get your cat to see if they will get along. I use to work in an animal shelter and it is encouraged if you are bringing a new animal into a household that already has an animal to bring the other animal in to make sure they get along so you don’t have to have the heartache of having to bring the animal back which is very hard on the animal as well.

I grew up around Siamese cats my whole life and they are pretty even tempered to my mind, my Mother used to raise them.

rag dolls are a wonderful mellow breed, and main coons can be very loving.
why not go to your local pet shelter and get your friend a companion? pure bred cats usually find a home with no problem. shelter cats can be pure bred cats whose owners just got tired of them. these cats are on their last chance before they are killed. please adopt one of these wonderful animals. they have no one and need a great home like you can provide. at least go see what beautiful cats the’re are.
as a last step (after doing all these other things) google a rescue shelter for the breed you are interested in. there are thousands of adoptees available. these people can tell you much more about their breed, more than your vet can or more than you can read in a book. they can even tell you about which cat they have will fit your specific needs,
please rescue a cat. they didn’t choose to be homeless and they didn’t choose to be killed just because no one wants them

I bred the Cali best in show Persian Cream and an Odd Eyed White many years ago. Can’t manage the attention they deserve anymore. Took a MINX to best in show for a friend. Now I just enjoy my mix. They are really fun. Cats are funny peoples and they really don’t care. They just live along side what is given them. Don’t think the breed matters.

We have two Siamese cats (adopted from our local humane society) who have adapted nicely to living indoors. As Macleod709 suggested any cat can become an indoor cat, but it will probably be easier if you get a younger cat who is not accustomed to spending time outside.

I used to raise Himalayan Siamese…they’ve been classified as Persians now. Beautiful cats, but high maintenance. If you cat wants company, I’d do a cat a favor and go to the animal shelter.
