    cat breeds
    Kratz asked:

My husband and I bought my cat when he was 6 months old. Now he is 8 months old. He is a very playful cat and I love him a lot. My husband and I decided to get a puppy for our home as well cause I looked up my cats breed which is a “bombay-mix with something else” and It said that the breed usually gets along with dogs and other pets. My neighbor has a BIG dog and my cat normally goes up to the gate and smells him and everything is fine. So I thought it would be okay and everyone else did too. So we bougfht a puppy 8 weeks old the other day. We brought him home and my husband held the puppy and I held my cat and let them snif each other and it was fine until 15 minutes later my cat started growling non stop for at least an hour and when the puppy went to smell the cat my cat would hiss at him. They are both boys. I am very worried for my cat cause I feel he is tramatized. I know the puppy can be much and too excited (maybe thats it) but I just want my cat to calm down. What can I do?

I am very much into cats and have 3. I have a Chinchilla and have had ferrets and sugar gliders and friends bringing pets over. Cats can be very protective and territorial even though they seem not to. You need to introduce them giving respect to the cat. They will appreciate it and get better, but they might be pissed at you and avoid you for awhile. But they will recognize your respect you’ve given them and they will respect back in time.

      Cats usually dont like dogs!
My cats tolerate my dog but they are boss!!
is the dog going to be inside or outside or both. Your cat probably thinks the house is his (which of course it is, you just board there LOL).
Your cat is young enough to learn to live with puppy.
Just give your cat lots of cuddles and love then he will know you still care.
Try Feliway to calm down puss!! also some calming drops (rescue remedy or similar) in his water.

      Good luck!

Your cat is just saying “I was here first”. This is what cats do, and an 8 week old puppy is all over the place. I got my puppy about 5 months ago and my older cat let her know she was in her territory. They worked it out on their own and now, just last night they were kissing each other. With time this will happen in your household. Just keep an eye on them, As far as calming your cat down you can get some Rescue Remedy from any health food store. I give it to my cat when I take her in the car. Many people give it to their cats at cat shows, the same for dogs. I even have used it. After all it is for people. It just takes the edge off. Good luck and congratulations on your new pup;^)
