Turkish Van is originated from Turkey but European Burmese is originated from Myanmar. Both Turkish Van and European Burmese are having almost same weight. Hailing from Turkey, the Turkish Van was brought to the UK in 1955 by 2 British women, Laura Lushington and Sonia Halliday.
These cats were used as the foundation stock of the breed. They were brought to the United States in 1982 and accepted into championship with the Cat Fanciers’ Association in 1994.
They are a very rare breed and no other breed is allowed to be mixed into the cat's breeding schedule. All registered Turkish Van cats can have their ancestry traced back to the imported cats of Laura Lushington.
The European Burmese was developed in the 1960s when they were imported to England by British breeders.
They were then crossed with red-point Siamese as well as British Shorthairs to expand the gene pool and number of coat colors.
In 1994, the cat was recognized by the Cat Fanciers Association and later by the Canadian Cat Association as well as the Cat Fanciers Federation and others as well.
